Why Most Prayers Miss The Point

God's prayer list, do you know what it is? The Bible says, seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you. Most of you know the verse. What were those things that he was speaking of in the verse? Those were life necessities. Now let's create a hierarchy, if you would. You have life necessities and then you have wants and desires. Unfortunately, many people are praying their wants and desires. And then some even take a step down and start praying their lusts. Well, if you take a step up from lust and pray desire, and then take a step up from desire and pray for life necessities, then we can take another step up and pray for God's prayer list.

God’s Prayer List From Scripture

If you don't know what it is, let me go over a few of those things. That God's name be honored. Hallowed be your name. Matthew and 6 9. God's kingdom to come, which you know from taking the course, is the righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. That is the kingdom of God. So we want to pray for His name to be hallowed, and we want to pray for the righteousness, peace, and joy which is synonymous with the fruit of the Spirit. So we pray that the fruit of the Spirit will grow and manifest. Number three, that God's will be done. It should be clear and it is very obvious to most of you. We want his will to be done, the spread of the gospel, workers for the harvest, that all people and all those in authority that we might live in peace. Now notice again there's no contradiction with John. We're praying that we can live in peace by praying for all people everywhere and for those in authority that we can live in peace. We pray for the church and other believers. We pray for those who are suffering, sick, persecuted, or imprisoned. We pray for our enemies and those who mistreat us, and we pray for wisdom and we can pray for our daily necessities. Notice where they come in this list. Now, at the end of this list, if there's still time, you would have time to bring up those other things.

How Right Priorities Reshape Desires

But now notice that if you seek the kingdom of God, which is his righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit, and focus on that, you offer God the ability to focus on the things of your desires. Now, mind you that while you're praying his prayer list, your desires might change into the things that he desires for you. And then when he gives you those desires, then he can meet those desires because those desires originated with him. Most people don't get what they pray for because they're praying with the wrong motive or praying that they can spend it upon their own lusts. In this case, we are going up the list to God's prayer list and know that he knows what is best
